• Question: What has been your most interesting/ exciting find in all the research projects you have done to date

      Hi Johnny,

      There are a few very interesting things, although it is all “top secret” for now, regarding the agreements I’ve signed. But I can tell you one of the most exciting things that I had a chance to see and take part in: modelling neurodegenerative diseases on Danio Rerio (fish). That was incredible to, for example, see danio with Huntington disease. Also, the technique of imagine its brain in a larval state was cosmic! You could watch live the activity of the neurons in a state of rest. After application of a simple stimulating neurotransmitter (glutamate) you could see how the excitation wave is “travelling” from the front of the brain to the back. Each neuron one by one was lightning up and fading out, as the impulse was passing. It was breathtaking to see neurons firing just in front of me. I hope it’ll be easier to imagine this moment.

      Probably the most unique thing I got to work on was a meteorite that originally came from Mars! These are super rare rocks since its not often rocks get transferred between planets. I was part of a research team that tried to find what kind of environment from mars the rock originally came from so we can try and figure out how the planet evolved over time. What we found out was that it was formed from two different types of lava not that different than what is found on Earth.
