During my graduate studies I was able to establish a relationship between sentiments and their types (positive and negative) using combination of nature inspired algorithm (genetic algorithm) and a mathematical model.

My most important discovery was figuring out how old certain metallic rocks are in Ireland. In Ireland we are one of the few places in Europe that has its own metal resources but we are still trying to figure out how the metals get trapped in the rocks. One of the important things we need to do to narrow down possibilities is figure out when the metal was deposited (how old it is). I was the first person to successfully determine the age of this metal in Ireland, which is now being used my other researchers to help come up with what possible mechanism formed the metal ore deposits. This is also important for industry that explore for more resources.
