Science is mostly about discovering unexpected things. The plans you begin with almost always doesn’t work. There you discover, what doesn’t work and it is unexpected. And then when you reach to final stage you claim to discover a new method/object. That process makes you discover many things.

When I was in grad school, I was working on a project where I was hoping that particular method should work, but it didn’t. The project was about identifying the review a person would give to a movie. However, after trying many methods, I was able to come up with a method that was able to perform identification. So, there I discovered, what worked, what didn’t and why it did or not.
