      Tough question!
It’s so difficult to choose one. One that first comes to mind would be Stephen Hawking’s “A Brief History of Time” , his “The world in a nutshell” is good too. He explains universe, time and space so regular people can understand. He has a great book series for 8-12 kids as well, “George’s Secret Key to the Universe”.
The one other author I want to mention is Richard Dawkins, his book “The selfish gene” is quite a great tale about evolution and natural selection.
