While stopping a stroke while it’s happening is generally difficult since it can happen without long warnings, it can be prevented with a healthy life and avoiding smoke and unbalaced diet.

Strokes happen when part of the brain has a poor blood supply. It can be caused by many reasons such as torn blood vessel or a blood clot. Clots, for example, can be removed using specific drugs that will dissolve it or even surgically. So it is very important to recognize the stroke and get help as soon as possible, while the brain is not damaged due to the lack of oxygen.

A simple test called FAST can help you recognise if someone has had a stroke:
Facial weakness – can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped?
Arm weakness – can the person raise both arms?
Speech problems – can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?
Time to cal for an ambulance if you spot any one of these signs.
